My name is Sonia Lagozzino. As you already know, Mr Shannon is taking a well-deserved break and whilst he is away, I will be taking his wonderful Grade 3, 4, 5 & 6 students. I feel very lucky to have such an opportunity where I can work with a great team and fantastic students. I am looking forward to the forthcoming weeks as I get to know all the students and their families. Some of our work during Literacy time.

What is a firefighter?
Firefighters are people who are trained and equipped to respond to fires and other hazardous situations. Their main job is to put out fires that pose a threat to people and property, but they can also be involved in fire preparedness and community education. Merrigum Kindergarten invited our school to join them at the Kindergarten to have a look at the fire truck and all their equipment, Student's were able to sit in the truck, and squirt the big fire fighting hose. Everyone enjoyed the morning. Thank you for the invitation Merrigum Kindergarten and also to the CFA volunteers for taking the time to educate the children in case of a fire. Aboriginal art is art made by indigenous Australian people. It includes work made in many different ways including painting on leaves, wood carving, rock carving, sculpting, ceremonial clothing and sand painting. Aboriginal art is closely linked to religious ceremonies or rituals.
Indigenous art is centered on story telling. It is used as a chronical to convey knowledge of the land, events and beliefs of the Aboriginal people. The use of symbols is an alternate way to writing down stories of cultural significance, teaching survival and use of the land. Dots were used to in-fill designs. Dots were also useful to obscure certain information and associations that lay underneath the dotting. At this time, the Aboriginal artists were negotiating what aspects of stories were secret or sacred, and what aspect were in the public domain. Here at Merrigum Primary School we have some budding artists. Miss Cowan MACC teacher taught our student's how to draw and colour like Pablo Picasso, Students enjoyed the challenge of this form of art.
Students were set a challenge to build a tower with cards. Luca improvised and used books, he found that much easier than cards. Elijah had a good try but it was an epic fail (as was stated on our Class Dojo), and then he had a little bit of help with great success (but cheated just a little (also stated on Class Dojo). Over all they stuck to there task so congratulations boys.
