We had a fantastic afternoon at the Museum for the Graeter Shepparton Heritage Open Day. The students had a fantastic afternoon, seeing and learning more about our local history with some of the member of the society.
Yesterday we had the Merrigum CFA here talking to us about fire safety and some of the things we should do to remain fire safe. They taught us things such as Stop, Drop, Cover and Roll if you are on fire and Get Low and Go, GO, GO if there is a fire in your house. Thank you to the Merrigum Kindergarten for joining us. Thank you to Alan, Richo and Jack for coming and teaching us about fire safety. The kids had a great time learning about the fire truck and taking it in turns to squirt the big hose and trying to hit the recycle bin.
In Aboriginal studies we're working on a unit I've titled 'Before the Settlers Came', based on the book 'Dark Emu' by Bruce Pascoe. In the last couple of weeks, we've been learning about the different types of houses our First Nations People lived in before the settlers moved in. We've made models of the houses at Budj Bim. We also experimented with how to design eel traps. We made the fish traps with clay and rocks, and then poured in water to see if our plasticine eel traps would work.
Hello everyone, welcome back to a new year, hope everyone had a great holiday. I am Miss Price and I am very excited to be teaching in the Prep – 2 room this year. I have been teaching in Shepparton for the last 14 years and can’t wait to see what adventures I will have at Merrigum Primary School. I have been teaching for over 20 years around the region and I am a Kyabram local. I am looking forward to teaching closer to home. We have had a great start in the first week of term 1. We have been learning classroom rules and practicing daily routines of our new classroom. We will start our home reading this week. If you have their green reader bag at home could you please make sure that they bring it back to school ready for home reading. I am looking forward to having a great year. If you have any questions please feel free to pop in for a chat either before school or after. Merrigum Lions Club, Bert Chapman Civics and Citizenship Awards were presented at our School Concert by Greg Pell (Merrigum Lions Club).

Day 1, It was a 4-hour bus ride (It was very boring). When we arrived, it took a long time to get settled in. We were in different cabins, but our roommates were nice. We were put in school groups but a few of Lancaster’s people were with us. We wondered around the town for about an hour and a half, after that we met up with the other schools at the café for dinner. We had beef casserole and rice with a bun and for dessert we had brownies and whipped cream. After that we had showers and freshened up, then we went to the Aura Sound and Lights Show. It was quite fun, when it was finished, we went back to the cabins and played some board games then went to sleep. Day two, we woke up at 6:30 to children running around and screaming instead of getting ready for the dress up school. When we were ready, we walked to the gate and got split into two groups. One was Wesleyan and one was Red Hill, Merrigum and Lancaster were Wesleyan's’. School wasn’t that thrilling, in the end all we did was write on slate boards and when the girls were sewing the boys were doing technical drawing. After school we went to the candy shop (and yes, they were CANDY! not lollies, you can’t say hard boiled lollies) anyways, we also went to the candle shop, the souvenir shop and then we went panning for gold. While everyone else was panning I went to the water loo with a friend and got some adorable marbles. At dinner time, we went to the café, and we had chicken with vegetables and rolls. For dessert we had pavlova with whipped cream and passion fruit. Later that night we watched the Lion King then went to bed. Day three, we got up at around 6:30 to get ready for the day. We were meant to have breakfast at 7:15 but we got there at 7:20 because some people slept in, so we had a very quick breakfast. When we got to the dress up school Marm got us to do our 12- and 16-times table, we also got to write with our pens. Marm told us how to dip them in ink and how to use our blotting paper, well we did that. The inspector came around to see how the teacher was doing, he was very funny. The bus ride back felt really long we watched Lion King 2 and Cars 2. For lunch we had chicken and salad rolls and when we got back to school all our parents were waiting for us.
